This blog is full of games!

PLEASE READ ON

This is a blog that I created for my Media, Tech and Education class. It has fifteen different lesson games that are for a Physical and Health Education class (formerly called "gym"). The games suitable for elementary school students and they are based on the Quebec Education Plan. Most of the games come from class that I took in my first semester taught my Mr. Gordon Oliver. Others are games that I played while in elementary or high school.

The games are based on a methodology called Teaching Games for Understanding (TGFU). This framework theorizes that young children should not be taught sports through drills and practices. It says that children need a fun and cooperative environment in which to learn the fundamental skills and basic knowledge that enable them to peform physical activities effectively. The more complex team sports should not be introduced in elementary school rather pieces and concepts of them should be incorporated into small-sided games. Through games, students can arrive at an understanding of the strategies and tactics that can be applied to all sports.

The QEP is a student-based curriculum. That is to say, the objectives are worded as competencies that the students are expected to achieve throughout the year. There are three competencies for physical and health education; they are:
1. To perform movement skills in different physical activity settings
2. To interact with others in different physical activity settings
3. To adopt a healthy and active lifestyle
